I have been telling stories for most of my life. I likely would have been a minstrel if I’d been born 200 years ago because I also sing pretty well.
I managed to write book 1 of The Andarii Chronicles in a little over six months. I queried and queried and queried and absolutely no one wanted to see the manuscript. I sent the first 3 chapters or the first 10 pages to a few agents who wanted them initially but I never heard back from most of them. And every agent says that if you don’t hear from them in 6 to 8 weeks, they’re not interested so I take that as a no.
The ones who did reply were mostly polite but incredibly vague. They didn’t tell me if the problem was the query, the synopsis, the pages I sent or what. This won’t help me to know how I can make my next attempt at querying successful but I am determined not to give up. This series means so much to me.
I was also told multiple times (not by Lit. Agents but by readers) that the story might appeal more to a YA crowd so I am currently adapting it for YA.
Recently I discovered a Christian Literary Agency and I think I may have an inkling of why the story was not well-received by mainstream literary agencies. Faith. God is very important to me and so he has a place in my story and my main character’s life as well. So I have decided the best thing to do is to finish my rewrite, get all of the my other ducks in a row and query this wonderful Christian Lit. Agency. Then I will pray like there’s no tomorrow.
To that end, I plan to release about a dozen ARCs in the next month or so. If anyone is interested in reading a YA (Christian) Fantasy novel for reviews and feedback, reply here and let me know. I will put you on the list.
And a big shot out to all of my #Twitter followers, my Wonderful #Facebook fans! and the terrific people who #follow my blog! Without our fans, where would writers be?
