Scary what qualifies as “literature” these days…

Yesterday I received an email from GoodReads about voting in their GoodReads Choice awards.

So I went to check out the nominees. (You can too. Just click the image above)

Frightening to think these are our options…

Fortunately, they also offer the option of writing in a vote.

I voted for exactly 1 of their nominees (The Elite by Kiera Cass – YA Fantasy/Sci-Fi). I wrote in my own selection in 5 categories and chose not to vote in the others.

I’m sure it probably seems silly to write in my own votes but I did share my choices so other people who follow me on twitter or Facebook will see them & they have the option to write them in too if they agree with me. And I have them below also, in case you’re curious.

But, my options were to either write in my own choice or skip the category completely because I refuse to vote for a book I feel does not deserve to win. And I did skip several categories for one of these reasons. In fact, I didn’t even look at the horror category.

Movie covers and even book covers seen to be getting nastier lately…

The point of these things is to voice your opinion. And I’ve done that. So I’ve done my part.

I will also take a moment to say how ironic I think it is that there are so many books out there that are very badly written but still end up on the best sellers list while good, decent books with an actual plot and terrific character development never get published.

OK. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.
