It’s almost that time again!

The ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers) Conference is August 25th – 28th this year!

You may have seen this recently on other author blogs. I know I have . . . and I decided to post one, too.

Thank you to Laurie Tomlinson for such GREAT questions!

Laurie had an awesome idea . . . to have a pre-conference mixer for those attending the ACFW conference.

She designed a link-up of questions to answer so that authors going to the conference can learn more about each other and people who ‘drop-in’ to the conversation can also get a little snapshot of various authors.

Here’s mine:

Name: JC Morrows

Location: Nashville, TN (How cool is it that the conference is here in my town this year!)

What do you write? What’s your tagline: I write speculative fiction… which actually encompasses several sub-genres; Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Dystopian, Post-Apocalyptic,  etc… At the moment, I’m writing YA (Young Adult) Dystopian fiction with a Steam Theme (which also happens to be my current tagline). My next series (book 1 releases this November) is YA Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian with a Steam Theme. 

Place in the book world:  First and foremost I am a mother. Writing is not something I decided to do at some point… it’s just who I am. I am a storyteller. Thankfully, my children, though they are at times annoyed at how much time my writing takes, are the ones who push me the hardest! They are the first ones to ask me how many pages I’ve written or edited for the day. And they love to walk around at bookstores where I do book-signings, handing out bookmarks, telling people their mother is up front signing her book and they should come check it out!

On a scale of hugger to 10-foot-pole, please rate your personal space: “Oh. We’ve got a hugger.” You moms should know what movie that quote is from… LOL!

Something VERY serious: How you take your Starbucks: In the summer months it’s: “Caffè Vanilla Frap, Double Blended, No Whip.” Grande on a normal day. Venti on a day when I really just need a caffeine I.V.! And you know… it often amazes me how many baristas I have to explain that to. Practically every movie that features a Starbucks has people ordering their drink that way. That’s how I did it when I was in K-Town. Of course I’d lived there for years and there was at least one barista at each Starbucks in town who knew me by sight, so they mostly knew before I ordered – they’d just ask which size. A few of them even knew me well enough to say “This looks like a venti day.” To which I would laugh and nod and swipe my card.

The unique talking points that will get you going for hours: My kids! Dragons! The ever popular “book to movie” debate. It’s always interesting to find out where my friends stand on whether they destroyed the story from the book or actually somehow made it better… cough… cough… the Divergent series

Loved ones at home you’ll be missing: My children are actually deserting me several days before the conference even starts. Their grandmother back in K-Town is snatching them away for a week of fun while I do “boring writing stuff”. Since I am in town, no hotel for me — so I am expected to keep the kitty who has adopted the children fed in their absence.

Conference goals we can pray for: Since I am mainly attending to meet up with friends I haven’t seen in two years… or online friends I have yet to meet in person, pray that all is well with them and that we find plenty of time to chat and/or catch up!

As far as general goals, I am constantly in need of prayer… who isn’t? At the moment, I am struggling with my schedule. Being published, even with my releases stretching slowly out over longer periods of time, I am finding it more and more difficult to keep up with social media, promoting, and of course, finding enough personal time for my family.

Anything we can celebrate with you? I am thrilled about the impending release of my second series. I have an exciting cover release blog tour coming up and I’m in talks with Celebrate Lit about a tour for Life After E.L.E.
